Who is Tatiana Santo Domingo?

Tatiana Santo Domingo Rechulski is the future wife of Andrea Casiraghi,  eldest son of Princess Caroline of Monaco and the late Stefano Casiraghi.  Although Andrea has dynastic rights in Monaco -- his mother is the heiress presumptive -- he nor his siblings are members of the Monagesque princely family.

Why?   Andrea is not a Grimaldi.  He is a Casiraghi.  He's rich, very rich, and he is engaged to marry a very, very rich young woman.  Her family is worth billions, and one assumes she has a very neat and tidy trust fund!

The Princely family of Monaco consists of four members:  The Prince and Princess of Monaco (Albert and Charlene) and the Prince's two sisters, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie.

In 2002, changes were made to the Monagesque constitution in regards to the Succession.  Under the old Constitution, succession was limited to the Sovereign Prince's children.  When Rainier III succeeded in 1949, his sister ceased to be a dynast.  For most of Rainier's reign, the only heirs to the throne were Albert and his two sisters.  If the old law remained in effect,  Caroline and Stephanie and their descendants would have lost their rights when Albert succeeded in 2005.

When the law changed in 2002,  Princess Antoinette's legitimate or legitimated descendants moved into the line of succession, but this did not make them members of the princely family.  The new law only gave them the possibility of succeeding to the throne.  In 2005, Antoinette's line ceased to have dynastic rights.

Andrea has possible, perhaps, even potential, succession rights in Monaco.  But he is not treated as an heir because he is only the nephew of Prince Albert.  He does appear at major events in Monaco because he is the Prince's nephew (and previously, Prince Rainier III's grandson.)

Andrea's potential succession opportunities will become available only if his uncle has no legitimate children.   If Albert dies without a legitimate heir, the throne will pass to Caroline, if she is still alive, or her eldest son.

Lots of ifs here.    Charlene might not have any children.  Albert and Charlene might get divorced.  Albert might marry again,  and have a child with a second wife.  Or Albert and Charlene stay married but remain childless. If this becomes the case Albert might create a title for Andrea to recognize his status as heir presumptive (he can never be an heir apparent while his uncle is alive).  At this time, Andrea is not being groomed or prepared as a future Prince of Monaco.

Caroline and Stephanie and their descendants will cease to be in line to the throne when Albert's child succeeds.

Thus, there is a very remote possibility that Tatiana Santo Domingo Rechulski would become the wife of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco.

Tatiana was born in New York City on November 24, 1983. She is the daughter of the late Julio Mario Santo Domingo, a Colombian businessman, and Brazilian socialite Vera Rechulski.

Tatiana's paternal grandfather, Julio Mario Santo Domingo (1923-2011) was the second richest man in Colombia.

Tatiana and her younger brother, Julio Mario, grew up in Switzerland.  She attended a boarding school in Fontainebleau, France, where it is said she met her future husband.

She studied art history at the American University in Paris, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in visual communication.  Tatiana, who has Colombian, Brazilian and Polish ancestry, is multilingual, and is said to be fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian, and French.

In 2011 with friend and partner Dana Alikhani,  Tatiana launched Muzungu Sisters, a fashion line based on ethical practices.  The design label recently had pop-up shops in Monaco and Beirut, Lebanon.

Tatiana and Andrea have been dating for about seven years.  The date of the wedding has not been announced.  As Andrea is not a member of the Princely family, expect any announcements to come from Princess Caroline's office, and not from the palace's press office.   The official announcement of engagement came through Princess Caroline's office, and was sent as a release to the media.

After the death of Julio Mario Santo Domingo Sr., Univision profiled the family.
