A telegram from Willgrad to Schwerin -- and reported by the New York Times -- "announces the death this morning, of Duchess Elisabeth of Brunswick, the wife of Duke Johann Albrecht, regenty for the Duchy of Brunswick.

Elisabeth was the daughter of Karl Alexander, Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, and Princess Sophie of the Netherlands.  She married Johann Albrecht of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1886.  He was the younger brother of Duke Friedrich Franz III of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.  Following his brother's death in 1897,  Johann Albrecht was appointed as regent for his nephew, Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV, a minor.  He held that position until the young Grand Duke reached his majority in 1901.

Duchess Elisabeth is survived by her husband.  Their marriage was childless.
