The glowing stars of the Wessexes

Mr. Wilson does get it wrong regarding the Dukedom of Edinburgh.  Prince Edward will not inherit his father's dukedom.  The 1947 Letters Patent that created the title provides for male primogeniture for the succession.  This means Charles is the heir apparent to the present peerage.  If the Duke dies before the Queen, Charles succeeds to his father's peerages.

Prince Edward will be given a new dukedom after the death of his father and the succession of Charles III.

  2. This was announced at the time of the wedding. If Philip dies before the Queen, Charles will inherit the current dukedom, which will remain with him until he succeeds to the throne, and all of his peerages merge with the Crown. The Letters Patent for the current dukedom is specific .. Philip's male heirs. If Philip lives longer than the Queen, the title will revert to the Crown at his death. This means Charles III will at some point create his brother as Duke of Edinburgh, but not likely earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich.

  4. Marlene, I have read somewhere - probably in the English gutter press - that Charles wants to be called King George VII because his title of Charles 111 will be bastardized to the Cockney Charles the turd! Have you heard this?

  6. I read (but unfortunately can not remember the source) that it was Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother's wish that Charles take the name George VII when he succeeds but it won't be known until his accession which rein name he will choose.

  7. It is very likely that Charles , who will be an elderly king, is unlikely to use another name, when he is so known as Charles. This is not like his grandfather, whose first name was Albert.
