Narrow escape for Kaiser's daughter

August 10, 1901

Princess Viktoria Luise, the daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, "barely escaped serious injury" tonight while walking through the Wilhelmshohe Park in Cassel, reports the New York Times.

A "gigantic tree" fell across the path in which Viktoria Luise was walking with the children of the Duke of Württemberg. Wilhelm II, who was playing tennis nearby, heard the crash and raced to the scene. He found the children "greatly frightened, but unhurt."

Soldiers were called in to clear away the debris. The Kaiser is staying at Kassel, where he will meet the King of Siam.
