Margrave Berthold of Baden, the son of Margrave Maximilian of Badn, last imperial German chancellor, was married today to Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, second daughter of Prince and Princess Andrew.  The civil ceremony took place at Baden-Baden, according to the Associated Press dispatch.  The religious service, "to which 100 princely guests have been invited", will take place on Monday.

The ceremony took place at the "romantic castle known as the Neue Schloss."   The only guests at the wedding were the couple's relatives, including the bride's father, Prince Andrew, and Margravine Marie Louise, the groom's widowed mother.

Prince Andrew and the Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, husband of the former Kaiser's daughter, Viktoria Luise, were the "official witnesses.  The Duke of Brunswick is the brother of the Margravine Marie Louise.

The bride and groom are both 25.

  1. Was Princess Andrew in a sanitarium by this point, and prevented from going by her caretakers? Did she want to go? Or, was she 'out of it' to an extent that she didn't realize there was a wedding?

(note to self: get bio on Princess Andrew which looks excellent..)
