Prince Laurent of Belgium has been sent to the proverbial wood shed largely due to his recent activities in the Congo. According to several Belgian news sources, the 47-year-old prince is now persona non grata at the royal palace at Laeken. He will no longer be invited to family activities and official events. His official schedule has also been cleared.
Laurent, who is the third and youngest child of King Albert and Queen Paola, is seen as the royal enfant terrible. The royal ban does not extend to his wife, Princess Claire and their three children. They are still welcome at the palace.

Would Dona Paola (non-royal but known as princess) have been considered a suitable match for a Belgian prince in the late 19th or early 20th century? I'm sure the German courts would have rejected her, since she wasn't even an HSH or HH.
ReplyDeleteProbably not. Actually, unlikely.
