The Belgian Parliament raised "intention of examining the question of raising" King Albert's civil list "in order to provide a special indemnity" for the recently married Crown Prince Leopold. This intention has been ruled unconstitutional, as the Belgian Constitution states that the royal family's civil lists are established at the beginning of each reign. The new Crown Princess Astrid will have to wait until her husband succeeds to the throne before she will receive more money for expenses. Until then, Leopold and Astrid will have to "worry along on a million Belgian francs a year for household expenses and dressmakers' bills."
King Albert's annual civil list provides 3,000,000 francs annually.
