Fill in the blank..
Bunte, the weekly German glossy magazine, has been providing Princess Caroline with the evidence that her estranged husband, Prince Ernst August of Hannover, is a philanderer. He is openly (and flagrantly) committing adultery, Now, of course, Princess Caroline was in the same position as Simona, in the 1990s, when she was seen as the other woman. Do we expect divorce proceedings any time soon? It is unlikely that Ernst August will be accompanying his wife to her brother's wedding in July.

Hard to feel sorry for Caroline, seeing that she did it to a friend, Chantal. Ernst August is getting a little to old for all this nonsense.
ReplyDeleteHis mid-life crisis seems to be on-going.
Totally O/T: Happy Holidays, Marlene have a great New Year!!!
I hate for Caroline to lose her HRH though, it seems more impressive than HSH, though she's from a reigning House and EA is not.
ReplyDeleteMarlene do you know what the precedent is for a princess born royal who divorces another royal? Would she be styled as HSH The Hereditary Princess of Monaco, Princess of Hannover? Or in this case, does the divorced style not get used at all, unlike Sarah, Duchess of York or Diana, Princess of Wales? How was Ducky styled after her divorce from Hesse?
Caroline is not officially styled as the Hereditary Princess of Monaco. She is the heiress presumptive. I bet Caroline would resume her maiden "name" after a divorce. It would be up to Ernst August to decide if she got to keep the HRH - but it really won't matter because she is a member of a reigning royal house - and legally in Germany .. there are not HRHs. Ducky apparently resumed her maiden title ...
ReplyDeleteThe Prince of Monaco's official website refers to his elder sister as HRH Princess of Hanover. Obviously, as you say, that could change in the event of divorce. But, Marlene, have you seen any evidence that there will be a divorce? Surely the Princess has known her husband's ways for a long time. He has not accompanied her to any public events in quite a while.
ReplyDeleteThe ball is in Caroline's court. She's not going to file for divorce before her brother's wedding .. of course, tomorrow, we could read that she has begun divorce proceedings. I do not think she will start proceedings until after Albert marries.
ReplyDeleteErnst August and Caroline may also have some agreement - and live separately. She's not married in the eyes of the Roman Catholic church, and will need only a civil divorce. The real issue is Ernst August who has a lot of issues. It must be difficult for Caroline who must portray EA in a good light when talking with her youngest daughter. Chantal must be having the last laugh. EA cheated on her numerous times. It was only after he went public with Caroline that Chantal decided to file for divorce.
I was thinking the same thing, that Chantal is snickering somewhere in her villa. Who knows, maybe she and Caroline will mend fences and meet for a few glasses of wine and some girl-talk.
ReplyDeleteSwitching gears a bit, if this were 1890 or so, and EA wanted to marry Caroline, (and assuming there were no divorces in their pasts) would the marriage be acceptably equal under the Hannover house laws? Or, would it be non-dynastic. I'm wondering about the HRH v HSH thing, and also that Caroline's mother was not born royal.
A princess of Monaco would not have been suitable ... and the HSH did not matter ... lots of Serene Highnesses were acceptable ... moreover, in 1890, a member of the Hanover royal family, still so close to the British royal house, would never have married a Roman Catholic
