King Edward VIII has decided to announce his engagement to Mrs. Wallis Simpson "before his Coronation in May,"  the New York News has learned.  The report was published in the Chicago Daily Tribune.

This is a "carefully arranged" plan with "regard to the sensibilities of his millions of subjects."  The plan is set to "include a check back on the reactions of both peers and commoners."  If the king's subjects disapprove of a "Baltimore queen consort," they will have plenty of time "to formulate their disapproval" before the Coronation.

If the public "roared a protest", the king would "repudiate Mrs. Simpson, " or he "would cling to her and abdicate" is a question "which is agitating many in court circles."

Mrs. Simpson's divorce will be final on April 27.

The King might not announce the engagement until after that date, which will give the British Parliament and the Church of England "a good two weeks in which to launch formal opposition to Edward's marriage if such is their wish."
