Belgian prince baptised at Brussels

October 11, 1930

Prince Baudouin, the second child of Crown Prince Leopold and Crown Princess Astrid, was baptised today at the Church of St. Jacques of Coudenberg.  According to the Associated Press dispatch, the little prince was "wrapped in a shawl of rare lace."    Hundreds of school children "were among the crowds that lined the streets and watched the procession of royal carriages to and from the church."
The procession included the Crown Prince and Crown Princess, and the infant's grandparents, King Albert and Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians and Prince Carl and Princess Ingeborg of Sweden.
Despite the heavy rain, crowds gathered outside the church, and "cheered enthusiastically" for the baby Prince.
Baudouin "took the whole proceedings unconcernedly."  After his godmother, Princess Rene of Bourbon-Parma signed the register, the royal party got back into the carriages and returned to the palace.
