A royal wedding at Schloss Glücksburg

The sun shone brightly on Saturday in Glücksburg, Schleswig-Holstein, where Prince Johann-Georg of Isenburg und Büdingen, 33, married Stefanie Bittner,32.

The prince is the son of Princess Elisabeth of Schleswig-Holstein, whose marriage to Prince Ferdinand of  Isenburg und Büdingen in 1975 also took place at the castle. After the death of her husband in 1989, the princess returned to work, as the castle's manager.

Prince Johann-Georg wanted to get married at the castle, where he and his family often spent their summer vacations, and not in Büdingen.

He works as an economist, and his wife, the new princess, is a dentist, working in her father's practice. In February, Stephanie gave birth to the couple's first child, Anna Carolina, who was baptized in the chapel, following the wedding.

The wedding and the baptism were according to the rites of the Lutheran church.

The couple's civil ceremony took place on Friday, which was followed by a boat trip through one of the fjords.

The bride's gown was made from a soft champagne-colored material. After the church service, the bride and groom got into a carriage for a short ride to the castle, where the reception was held in the Red Room.

Princess Elisabeth is the eldest child of the late Prince Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig-Holstein (1913-1989) and Duchess Anastasia of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Friedrich Ferdinand was himself the fourth child, and eldest surviving son (his two older brothers were killed in the Second World War), of Prince Albrecht of Schleswig-Holstein and his first wife, Countess Ortrud zu Isenburg-Büdingen.
Albrecht's oldest brother, Friedrich Ferdinand was the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein.

His fifth child -- and first son, Friedrich, married to Princess Marie Melita of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, was the father of Duke Peter, whose son, Duke Christoph is the current head of the ducal house.
Christoph's wife, Princess Elisabeth of Lippe-Weissenfeld, is a cousin of Prince Ferdinand of Lippe-Weissenfeld, whose marriage to Princess Auguste of Bavaria, also took place on Saturday.

Elisabeth and Ferdinand are not first cousins, however.

No member of the Hanover royal family was present for the wedding, even though the groom's mother and Prince Ernst August of Hanover, who is married to Princess Caroline of Monaco, are first cousins.
