The controversy regarding Crown Princess Victoria's decision to be escorted down the aisle by her father, the King, nothwithstanding, the Archbishop should see this video:

The wedding took place in a Lutheran church in the United States. The bride was not escorted down the aisle by her dad. She boogied. It's okay to be different.
You still don't seem to understand, dearest Marleene, that we in Sweden normally don't to "walking down the aisle", and consequently lack the needed references to understand the point, or not, of it.
ReplyDeleteIt's just strange.
(just as we don't do your "dates" ;=)
Goran, I understand completely. It is not the usual tradition in Sweden for a bride to be escorted down the aisle .. that she and the groom walk into together. However, it is the bride's day, and if a Swedish bride wants to to buck tradition, then let her... it's not hurting anyone. The head of the Church was wrong to condemn the princess. It was none of his business. Walking down the aisle or skipping or even booging has nothing to do with the liturgical aspect of marriage. It is a part of the ceremony - ditto the white dress, the exchange of rings, etc. There is nothing in the Bible about how a bride goes down the aisle - the Bishop should be concerned with theology, but not with what the bride wants to do en route to the altar. The Bishop should have just smiled and understood. Not every American bride is escorted down the aisle - it is not mandatory. I presume that the bride and groom entering together is also not required in law, just a tradition ... the Bish made too much of it - and it really was not his business to tell a bride what to do ... I hope Victoria gave him an earful.
