Ian Liddell-Grainger re-elected to Parliament
Ian Liddell-Grainger has been re-elected as the MP for Bridgewater and West Somerset. Liddell-Grainger, a Tory, received 24,675 votes. This is his third term.
Mr. Liddell-Grainger is the only descendant of Queen Victoria to sit in the House of Commons. He is is a great-great-great grandson of Victoria through her youngest son, Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany.
Prince Leopold married Princess Helen of Waldeck und Pyrmont, and were the parents of two children, Alice, and Charles Edward. Alice married Prince Alexander of Teck, younger brother of Queen Mary. In 1917, Alexander renounced his German titles, and was created Earl of Athlone and Viscount Trematon, Lord Athlone and Princess Alice had three children, Lady May, Rupert, Viscount Trematon, and Maurice, who lived for only nine months.
In 1931, Lady May married Sir Henry Abel Smith. They, too, had three children, Anne, Richard and Elizabeth. Anne married David Liddell-Grainger. Ian is the eldest of five children.
Conservative party head David Cameron also has royal connections. He is a descendant of William IV and Dorothy Jordan. Their daughter, Lady Elizabeth FitzClarence married married the 18th Earl of Erroll. They had a daughter, Lady Agnes Hay, who married the 5th Earl of Fife, and their daughter, Lady Agnes Duff, was the wife of Sir Alfred Cooper, and their granddaughter, Enid Levita, married Donald Cameron, the grandparents of David Cameron.
Cameron is also related to the Duke of Fife, whose mother, Princess Maud, younger daughter of Princess Louise of Wales and the 1st Duke of Fife, who was Lady Agnes Duff's brother.
Cameron's wife, Samantha, is a direct descendant of Nell Gwynn and Charles II.
