Princess Luise of Prussia - family snaps

I recently acquired these two photos of Princess Luise of Prussia, who died earlier this year, and her son, Manfred.

The first photo was taken in June 1943 at Haus Lehnitzsee, Neu Fahrland in Potsdam. The second photo was taken in 1949 at Schloss Nordkirchen, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Arenberg. Luise and her son found refuge with the Arenbergs after fleeing from their home in Potsdam in early 1945.

  2. Was Princess Luise a wealthy women or did she have a career? I am just curious because of what you've written and the pictures. She looks like a regular women and sounds like a very down to earth person with no royal pretense about her. Bea

  3. I am not sure. She and her brother inherited from their parents, but they lost their property after 1945. She received a small appanage from Louis Ferdinand and Georg Friedrich of Prussia. She obviously never bought her own home, and was able to have an apartment at Schloss Bückeburg because her mother was a Schaumburg-Lippe. The first photo was taken during the second world war, and the second was in 1949. I do not know if she had a career. She attended royal events, and was interviewed in the series on Christian IX. Her son received a master's degree in poltical science from the UNC-Chapel Hill on a Fulbright scholarship.
