An heir for Denmark

November 17, 1939

There was great rejoicing in Denmark due to the announcement that Crown Princess Ingrid is expecting her first child in April. The former Princess Ingrid of Sweden married Crown Prince Frederik on May 24,1935, the AP reports.
If the Crown Princess gives birth to a son, he will become second in line to the throne. But if Ingrid gives birth a princess, Prince Knud, Frederik's younger brother, will remain second in line, as women cannot succeed to the throne.

  1. How nice that this baby turned out to be Princess Margrethe. She is of course now Queen Margrethe II
    of Denmark.

The 1953 referendum in Denmark allowed her to become "Heiress Presumptive" and then ultimately Queen in her own right, after her father King Frederik's death. I think that she is know as "Daisy"
    in the family.

In a way she is sort of an "elected queen" given the 1953 referendum.

I think that Marlene knows all the details about her birth and future life. So, I will not repeat them here.

    Cheers, Keith.
