Wedding presents arrive for Miss Julia Grant

September 2, 1899

Miss Julia Grant, who is to marry Prince Cantacuzene, is already receiving wedding presents, even though the cards for the wedding have not yet been issued. Miss Grant is staying with her staying with her aunt, Mrs. Potter Palmer, in Newport, Rhode Island, where one large room is filling up with presents from all over the world. One large chest arrived from New York by special messenger, and it is believed that the chest contains a gift from the Russian emperor, Nicholas II.

The bridegroom is bringing over his own present to Julia Grant, who is the granddaughter of the late President Grant. He will find "Newport waiting with wide-open arms to receive him." There will be several dinners in honor of the couple before their wedding. The first dinner will be hosted by Mrs. Palmer. Most of the guests will be young people. Other dinners will be hosted by Mrs. N.D. Clapp, Mrs. F.O. French, Mrs. Post and other Newport society matrons.
