"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Francis Bellamy wrote the Pledge in 1892. The words "Under God" were added later, and signed into law by President Eisenhower on June 14, 1954 -- the day I was born!
It's not "under God", it's "before God, under the Terebint", Genesis 18!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Marlene!!
ReplyDeleteExcuse me, but it is "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Marlene!!
ReplyDeleteAs a mere "Australian" I wonder if your
birthday always falls on "Flag Day"?
I must do more research into USA days
of respect.
Cheers.
Yes, Flag Day is June 14 every year - and it is a state holiday in Pennsylvania.
