The Chicago Daily Tribune is reporting in today's editions that the engagement between King Alfonso XIII of Spain, and Princess Patricia of Connaught, is to be "accepted as fact," although no official announcement has been made. The Princess is the youngest of three children of the Duke and Duchess of Connaught.
The couple have agreed that their sons will be Roman Catholic, but any daughters will be raised in their mother's faith, which is Church of England. Princess Patricia is "tall and slight, with a fresh English complexion, and light brown hair." Both she and her sister, Princess Margaret, who is the fiancee of Princes Gustav Adolf of Sweden, are "good riders and fond of outdoor sports."
This never happened. Patricia married Alexander Ramsay and had a very long and happy life with many descendants.
ReplyDeleteAlfonso married Eugenie (Ena) of Battenberg and their the family are now the popular Royal Family of Spain.
Yes, we all know that the engagement never took place, and Alfonso married Ena. Incidentally, Patricia and Alexander did not have "many descendants." They had one son who had three daughters, two of whom married and had children -with the sum total of 7 great-grandchildren. Actually, Ena's name was Victoria Eugenie (not just Eugenie.) Please read more about me on the blog and you will understand as I am the author of Queen Victoria's Descendants. I guess you have not yet caught on that the blog reports on news stories on a particular day. For this year, all the stories will be in years that end on odd numbers.
ReplyDeleteThere were numerous stories about a possible engagement between Alfonso and Patricia, but she turned him down.
