Princess Mathilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha dead

August 7, 1906.


Princess Mathilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha died today at Davos, Switzerland. She was 27 years old. The princess had suffered for a long time from a "weakness in the lungs," which developed into consumption (now called tuberculosis).

She is survived by her husband, Prince Ludwig, and two small children, Prince Antonius,5, and 23-month-old Princess Maria Immaculata She is also survived by her parents, Prince Ludwig and Princess Maria Theresa of Bavaria.

The former Princess Mathilde of Bavaria married Prince Ludwig in Munich on May 1, 1900.

Mathilde was said to be the favorite grandchild of Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria, and her death "has aroused widespread sympathy throughout Bavaria," where Mathilde was "universally loved."
