Another engagement for Miana?

In January 1914, Viennese and Munich newspapers reported the "impending engagement" of Archduchess Maria Annunciata of Austria and Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria, a widower whose wife, Marie Gabriele, died at Sorrento, Italy, in October 1912 after a long illness. The Crown Princess was born a duchess in Bavaria. Her sister, Elisabeth, was married to the King Albert of the Belgians.

In early 1914 - six months before Miana's older half-brother, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was heir to the Austrian throne, was assassinated at Sarajevo -- a marriage between the Emperor's niece and the future King of Bavaria would have been a good match. But the marriage never came about. In 1921, Rupprecht married Princess Antonia of Luxembourg.

Rupprecht's first wife, Marie Gabriele, was a first cousin of Siegfried Duke in Bavaria.
