Well, actually an archduchess ... such was the report in the
New York Times - on July 29, 1879, the Spanish
Cabinet, which
King Alfonso XII presiding, decided to "abandon a project" for marriage between the king and an Austrian archduchess. This was described as an "unconfirmed rumor." The paper also noted that the woman who through a stone at the king, who was on his way to church the previous Sunday, was sent to an asylum.
