A selection of photos I took in October 2011 during a visit to Sinaia (Peles & Pelisor). I was in Romania as a guest at King Michael's 90th birthday.

Princess Yolande of Bourbon-Parma +
Princess Yolande of Bourbon-Parma died on September 2, 2014. Her funeral will take place at 3 p.m., at the Chapelle des Dames Augustines at Saint-Germain-en-Laye on September 9.
Princess Yolande was born at Paris on April 26, 1928, the daughter of Prince Joseph de Broglie-Revel and Marguerite de la Cour de Balleroy. On June 9, 1951, she married Prince Michel of Bourbon-Parma, son of Prince Rene of Bourbon-Parma and Princess Margrethe of Denmark. She was 86 years old.
The couple had five children, Princess Inés (1952-1981), Prince Erik (1953), Princess Sybil (1954), Princess Victoire (1957-2001) and Prince Charles-Emmanuel (1961).
A marital estrangement followed after Prince Michel began a relationship with Princess Maria Pia of Italy, the wife of Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia, a close friend of Prince Michel. In March 1963, Princess Maria Pia gave birth a second set of twins, Princess Helene and Prince Serge. (Her first set of twins, Prince Dimitri and Prince Michel were born in 1958. The latter twin was named for Prince Michel of Bourbon-Parma.)
The Yugoslav marriage was dissolved by divorce in 1967. A year earlier, Prince Michel and Princess Yolande separated, although the Princess, a devout Roman Catholic, would not agree to a divorce. It was not until 1999, when the princess finally consented to end the marriage. Three years later, Prince Michel married Princess Maria Pia in a civil ceremony in Florida. (Neither Princess Helene nor Princess Serge have a close relationship with their official father, but are close to Prince Michel.)
Princess Yolande is survived by three of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family.

Otto will marry Italian Princess
September 4, 1934
King Vittorio Emanuele and Queen Elena met today with former Austrian Empress Zita to discuss a marriage between Princess Maria and Archduke Otto. The "royal conclave" has approved of the engagement of the Italian sovereigns' youngest daughter to the pretender to the Austrian throne.
N o official announcement was made, although Prince Felix, husband of Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg, who has been visiting former Empress Zita, formed the engagement to the Associated Press. Prince Felix and Grand Duchess Charlotte were present at the meeting. He is Zita's younger brother, and a Prince of Bourbon-Parma by birth.
The official announcement has been delayed "pending clarification of Otto's position in reference to the restoration of the monarchy in Austria and Hungary."
The King and Queen of Italy, accompanied by the "pretty Princess Maria," arrived without ceremony at the semi-deserted Villa Pianore, near Viareggio. The royal family were driven from their summer palace at San Rossore directly to the villa where Zita and her family have been living for the last month.
Zita welcomed the king and queen and Princess Maria into her drawing room. The 19-year-old Princess Maria remained with her parents as the plans for the betrothal were "quickly settled," according to a member of Zita's entourage.
Seven of Zita's eight children were at the Villa: Archduchess Adelheid, Archduke Robert, Archduke Felix, Archduke Carl, Archduke Rudolf, Archduchess Charlotte and Archduchess Elisabeth.
Archduke Otto, who will turn 22 in November, was not present for the family meeting. He was "hunting elk" in Sweden.

Juan Carlos & Sofia to divorce?
King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain did not spend their summer vacation today. This is not news. The couple, who married in 1962, have lived largely separate lives for many years. In June, the king announced his intention to abdicate in favor of his only son, Felipe.
King Felipe V's installation was the last time Juan Carlos and Sofia were last seen in public.
This summer, Queen Sofia spent most of her summer holidays at the Marivent Palace in Mallorca. Juan Carlos did not accompany her. The former king has only been seen twice in public this summer, first at the inauguration of Juan Manuel Santos as the new president of Colombia and in Granada to show his support for the Spanish basketball team.
On Tuesday, the Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, published a small article stating that an imminent announcement about an "effective divorce" between Juan Carlos and Sofia would be forthcoming from the King's official office.
The Royal Palace in Madrid has refused to comment on the report. "Experience" Spanish reporters believe that the palace will offer a brief statement about an official separation, not a divorce.
Queen Sofia remains in Mallorca with her sister, Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark.

Ernst Gunther banished
September 3, 1904
Duke Ernst Gunther of Schleswig-Holstein has been banished from the German court, reports the New York Times. The Duke, whose sister, Auguste Viktoria, is married to Kaiser Wilhelm II, recently wrote a letter "savagely attacking Baron von Mirbach, who recently retired as Secretary of the Empress' cabinet. Von Mirbach also served as the administrator of the empress' charities.
The Kaiser is said to be furious with his brother-in-law, and has announced that the Duke is banished from court. This announcement has been made public in several newspapers as the Duke Ernst Gunther was invited to the maneuvers but has had to decline to due to "ill health."
Duke Ernst Gunther is married to Princess Dorothea of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
The Empress' brother-in-law, Prince Friedrich Leopold, who married Princess Luise Sophie of Schleswig-Holstein, is also in "disfavor" with the Kaiser. He is the commander of a regiment, but his conduct is said to be "notoriously unmilitary." Wilhelm II decided to send the Prince to Manchuria, to give him a "real taste of war," but to the surprise of everyone, the newspapers announced a few days ago that Prince Friedrich Leopold was unable to travel due to "ill health."
But the real reason, according to official reports, is that the Russian Emperor was informed of the Prince's "character," and the "present position of the army in Manchuria" would make it difficult to guarantee Prince Friedrich Leopold's safety.
Although Nicholas II had originally agreed to Wilhelm's request, he withdrew his consent, and asked the German government to postpone the trip.
Prince Friedrich Leopold had spent 50,000 marks for the trip, but, according
