I am curious about the jewels, if they were completely broken up or if they are intact and gracing the neck and hair of some royal or noble lady today. 20,000 seems astonishing amount of money by the standards of the day!Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01234144838277390760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8762674434623075554.post-9999168043201210112010-01-03T20:40:41.731-05:002010-01-03T20:40:41.731-05:00Yes, Aribert was Marie Auguste's uncle.Yes, Aribert was Marie Auguste's uncle.Marlene Eilers Koenighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14984860671065161997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8762674434623075554.post-36099798618857528702010-01-03T20:16:59.126-05:002010-01-03T20:16:59.126-05:00Marlene, I assume that the Prince Aribert you ment...Marlene, I assume that the Prince Aribert you mentioned is the same man who married Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig-Holstein, daughter of Princess Helena.Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14047874299750843124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8762674434623075554.post-38829534772096828692010-01-03T14:30:08.489-05:002010-01-03T14:30:08.489-05:00articles in the NY Times, WX Times, Los Angeles Ti...articles in the NY Times, WX Times, Los Angeles Times, London Times.Marlene Eilers Koenighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14984860671065161997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8762674434623075554.post-71246314183617711222010-01-03T13:30:50.256-05:002010-01-03T13:30:50.256-05:00I have some interesting photos of Marie Auguste wh...I have some interesting photos of Marie Auguste while she lived in a camper immediately after the Second World War. After all, she had bolted (and for good reason), but it is unlikely that she received an allowance from the Kaiser. She remarried as well. Her own fortune was largely dissolved by the end of the war and her brother's abdication. It only became worse after the second world war because Anhalt is in the Eastern part of Germany.

I am not sure how many members of the Prussian royal family received appanages. Certainly the main branch, but Georg Friedrich ended the appanages for his uncles, Cecilie received an allowance from her brother when she lived in the USA, after her husband had died. Princess Louise, who died last year, also received a small allowance until her death. Joachim's grandsons apparently did not.Marlene Eilers Koenighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14984860671065161997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8762674434623075554.post-33509831723104876562010-01-03T02:49:03.054-05:002010-01-03T02:49:03.054-05:00Marlene, thanks for puttting this story up. I don't know if you know but why didn't her son, grandchildren, the Anhalt or Prussian families help her? This had to be embarassing with these adoptions of people and them taking the name and using it for their own benefit. BeaBeahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15948115612593626132noreply@blogger.com
