I applaud them for doing what is best for them. Diana would be so proud!

Does this suggest that since Counsellors of State must be domiciled in the UK, that Princess Beatrice will be a Counsellor of State during the absence of the Duke of Sussex?

I'm not surprised by this. Harry's loathing of the media and the way they have treated Meghan is why, for me, such a move was expected. Though with them pulling out of the spotlight, I'm saddened at how much brighter it will become on the Cambridges, especially the children. I'm sure this isn't what Charles had in mind when he asserted he wants to slim down the Royal Family. I wonder how they intend to become financially independent. Maybe start charging for making appearances?

Well, maybe it's just as good that they "step down". They obviously want to do things differently and they feel stifled and inconvenienced by palace rules. If they are so unhappy, I doubt that they would be able to "assist Her Majesty" in any significant way.

I do wonder how much clout would they have as simple Harry and Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor if they drop their titles. And if they don't drop their titles, it will be very interesting to see how do they hope to make a living in a way compatible with a royal role.

I truly do not understand what this means, can someone please explain? They no longer want to carry out royal duties? Is this like Edward VIII (I think?) who gave up the throne?

they do not want to be senior royals within the family. They want to do their own thing - still doing patronages, etc, but be financially independent

How on earth do they expect to be financially independent? They act as though they were hurting for cash.
Moreover, if not relying on funds from the royal purse they must be planning on commercial business deals. The problem with that is that titles and styles don't work well with commercialism. So they must be stripped of their titles. The problem with that is Harry and Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor don't have the same commercial appeal as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Moreover, the couple is famous because they WERE senior working members of the royal family. Now that they aren't the public appeal will eventually fade. There problems will be endless. This is all very much like watching a train about to crash. Such a terrible shame!

And yet, wish to maintain their state-funded security and grace and favor cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle. That's a slick little website their PR firm put together. The Queen and Prince Charles are boiling!

Sorry Harry , you lost my support.....how could you do this to H.M. the Queen. HM has supported you every stage of the way, the way you have responded must have hurt her deeply. Im sorry , this is not the way you treat OUR Monarch.Let alone a Lady who has devoted her life to the country as you were thought to do and in fact were expected to follow her example together with you wife Megan
You have alienated a good portion of the public the way you have behaved and reacted, sorry but I am truly disappointed in your actions and the fact you have gone against your Grandmother H>M> the Queen, long may she live.

I am still wondering what they mean by "financially independent". Right now, their official expenditures are paid at 95% by Prince Charles (from the duchy of Cornwall's estate profit) and at 5% by the Sovereign grant. I logically deduced that getting money from the SG means they can't have a professional occupation/job next to their royal duties and that's why they decided to renounce to it.
But as far we know, they both are wealthy in their own right : Meghan from 'Suits' and Harry from Inheritances (Diana and Queen Mother) and it's this money, I suppose/hope well invested, that they normally use for their personal expenditures.
For me, they already have the means to be financially independent in regards to their personal life. Obviously, if they want to work, something can be arranged.
If they mean their official life, well it's going to be difficult without touching their personal millions. I don't know of a lot of jobs they would be able to do from 2 countries, with part-time Royal duties which paid that well without it creating a new mess for everyone in The Firm.
