King Albert will provide a DNA sample to the court, according to his lawyer earlier today.   The result of the DNA test will remain secret until the Court of Cessation makes its final ruling later this year.

Delphine Boel has spent the last six years fighting a legal battle to be recognized as Albert's daughter.  Her mother Baroness Sybille de Selys Longchamps had an affair with the then Prince Albert, during her marriage to industrialist Jacques Boel.  Prince Albert, then styled as the Prince of Liege, was the heir presumptive to the throne as his brother, King Baudouin's marriage was childless.

Albert and his wife, Paola. an Italian aristocrat, were largely estranged during the late 1960s.

Delphine Michèle Anne Marie Ghislaine Boel was born February 22, 1968.  She has two children, Josephine (2003) and Oscar (2008) bu her Irish-American partner James O'Hare.

An an earlier court decision ruled that Boel was Delphine's legal father even though a DNA test proved that he was not her biological father.   Last October, the Court of Appeals overturned the decision.

At that time, the Court demanded that all the parties involved, including Delphine and the king, provide DNA samples to prove Delphine's claim.

More recently, the s\Court issued a penalty of 5,000 Euros per day that must be paid until Albert complied with the DNA request.

King Albert challenged the ruling with a request before the Court of Cessation.  This court ruled against the king and stated that the daily fine must begin.

Delphine Boel's lawyer, Yves-Henri Leleu, issued a statement on behalf of his client.  "This is good news.  The evidence is secured and we asked for nothing more or less than that.  It is also the end of a long legal story. The result has been achieved."

Mr. Leleu added that "it is logical that the result of the DNA test will remain secret for the time being until the Court of Cessation makes its final  decision."

Is there any particular reason - other than the possible issue of money - that Albert is so VERY reluctant to provide a DNA sample??? Does Delphine not have the right to know for a fact who her father is?? I think it would be the right of any child to at least know who your father is or isn't regardless of what the implication may or may not be. Secret? You'd think this was a secret of a higher order than the Manhattan Project. His reluctance leads one to believe that Albert is her father.

Of course Albert is her father. He was a part of her life when she was a child. She knew when she was about 17 that he was her father. It was only when he became king that he froze her out. Paola is very much behind this as well ... money? She is not asking for money. just recognition.
