The diamond does not way 40 carats.
Prince Jean Christophe parked his Mercedes not too far from the Hotel Aubusson, where they were planning the check in during their stay in Paris.
Meylan writes that they "carefully locked" the car, and then entered the hotel to check in. It took only a few minutes for the thief to break into the car and steal the bag, which included a computer, credit cards and the engagement ring.

I don't understand why anyone would leave a bag with personal possessions - jewels and credit cards inside a car. Bags - yes but the rest ???
The whole thing is fishy. Some articles are making the Prince out to be some hero for helping to look for the ring. Lol, he and his bride waited two days to report the theft and then another day after that to report the ring. It looks like they wanted to get robbed, but for a limited time only.
That part of the story was not true
