Wilhelm II would love to visit the USA

March 16, 1907

When Kaiser Wilhelm II recently visited the American Embassy in Berlin,. he was asked by one American if he hoped to visit the United States, reports the Chicago Tribune.

"I certainly would gladly visit the United States, not as emperor, but as a private gentleman; not for a fortnight like a globe trotter, but at least for three months," Wilhelm responded.

"But who would replace me meanwhile?  And what would my colleague, President Roosevelt, think if I acted contrary to his theory of hard work and little play?"
