Dowager Queen Margherita of Italy, mother of King Vittorio Emanuele, is suffering from pleurisy "at the base of the right lung," reports the Associated Press.
The condition of the 74-year-old queen is said to be "causing some anxiety."
Her brother, the Duke of Genoa, responded to a hasty summons to Margherita's bedside, and is now with her. His arrival has given credence to the concern for the dowager queen's health.
The King and Queen remain in Rome, and are being "advised frequently" on the dowager queen's progress. Crown Prince Umberto today "ordered services" at the church in Turin for the "recovery of his grandmother."
