New Italian king at his father's bier

King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy arrived in Monza today. He was met by his mother, Queen Margherita, who fell into his arms weeping," reports the New York Times.
The King knelt before the body of his slain father, and "repeatedly kissed and embraced it." For nearly an hour, the king, his mother, and his wife, Queen Elena, "prayed in the death chamber."
Subsequently, he received members of the Italian cabinet, with the audience lasting for more than an hour.
King Umberto was assassinated by an Italian anarchist, Gaetano Bresci, on July 29. He was killed instantly after being short three times in his chest.
