Official - Wilhelm & Cecilie to marry

September 4, 1904.

It is official now. Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia is to marry Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The match has been described as a love match. As the Chicago Daily Tribune noted, "the couple practically fell in love at first sight a few weeks ago." It is said that politics did not play a role in this proposed marriage.

The announcement was made by the German emperor at a dinner for leading officials from Schleswig-Holstein. The announcement was received with "great enthusiasm." The young heir to the throne is described as an "amiable, modest prince," who is "exceedingly popular in Germany, and especially in the army, of which he is one of the most dashing of officers."

The Crown Prince has also "manifested a liking for Americans." It was said that he had fallen in love with Gladys Deacon, but Kaiser Wilhelm would not approve of the marriage.

Gladys Marie Deacon later married the 9th Duke of Marlborough. But the marriage failed.

She was a famed beauty but as she had plastic sugery (nose job) which did not go well and she turned into a ugly woman. She later was in pychlogical treatment.

Her sister's son married Lee Bouvier, Jackie O's sister.

The marriage of the Crownprince did not turn out well.
