King sends Connaught to "salve" Americans.

September 2, 1911.

According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, King George V has asked his new Governor-General of Canada, who also happens to be his uncle, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, to maintain an "open house," and establish "helpful social relations with important American families."
Apparently, there has been a lot of ill-will between the US and the UK during the "reciprocity crisis," and the king wants to diffuse the situation by having his Canadian representative cultivate good relations with the American people.
