Grand Duke Michael safe, according to aide

September 9, 1919

Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia is safe, according to a former aide's accounting in Svenksa Dagbladet, a Swedish newspaper. The aide told the paper (the report was republished in the New York Times), that Michael, along with his secretary and a sailor, escaped from the Bolsheviks, escaped on a motor boat that was cruising along the River Haini to Irkutsk, where the Grand Ducal Party got on board, and traveled out of Russia and "has since remained incognito."

Sadly, this was just one of several misinformed reports about Grand Duke Michael, who was the last emperor of Russia. Grand Duke Michael and his secretary were killed in Perm in June 1918 by the Bolsheviks.
